Colouring sheet #1

Colouring sheet #2

Scratch Paper

These sheets are super cheap to buy from officeworks! You scrape away the black coating with a wooden stick (supplied) to reveal the multi-coloured backing beneath. They’re great for kids to have a go at making some linocut-style art, without having to muck about with sharp linocut tools or messy ink.

Yeti collage

This activity is super fun! You’ll need:

  • cotton wool balls
  • PVA glue
  • scissors
  • googly eyes (optional)
  • templates printed out (see below)

I printed the templates out on blue paper; glued the cotton wool balls onto the body template; then cut out a face from the face template and glued that on top. I drew the face details on, and stuck on a bit of cotton wool for the white monobrow. You could add googly eyes if you want.

Alternatives:

  • You don’t have to print on blue paper; white paper would work just as well.
  • You could even print the body template on brown paper and make a bigfoot instead – then you could paste on pieces of bark or brown thread or rolled up pieces of brown crepe paper to get interesting textures!

Comics narrative

The idea here is to let the kids imagine a prequel to the book. How did the feud between the two clans really start? Ask them to tell that story in the comic template below.

MOAD – footprints activity

The Museum of Australian Democracy (MOAD) has a fantastic activity for kids to do with Bigfoot vs Yeti, tying it in with Harmony Day/Week. Kids are invited to trace their footprint and decorate it with the qualities, interests and cultural background that makes them unique.

Bigfoot cardboard feet activity

This is a great activity idea – have the kids cut out giant cardboard feet, tie them on with fabric, and then have a relay race! Find the instructions here.
