I’ve got just a handful of events left for the rest of the year – the Scribblers Family Festival on October 28-29, and the Fremantle Arts Centre’s 50th birthday celebrations on November 26.

OCT 28, 29 – Scribblers Family Festival

I’m a late ring-in to the 2023 Scribblers Festival! This year it’s in the Cathedral Square precinct in the Perth CBD, with all sorts of sessions happening in therein stage marquee plus the nearby City of Perth Library and State Buildings.

I’ve got three different sessions – details below.

LET’S ROCK AND MOLE!

Join me at the main stage marquee to hear all about my graphic novel series, Secret Agent Mole! This is a free event for the whole family. Book sales and signings after.

ADVANCED GRAPHIC NOVEL AND COMICS SKILLS

Join me as I take you behind-the-scenes of a graphic novel. Learn about scriptwriting, pacing, character consistency and advanced panel techniques, and take home terrific tips and tricks to supercharge your own comics.  

This workshop is ideal for teens aged 13+ looking to take their skills to the next level or get an insight into craft of professional illustrators and graphic novelists. Please bring drawing materials (paper, pencils, pens) to this workshop.

STORY BATTLE!

Your chance to challenge our creatives to a word skirmish! Which one can come up with the best stories on the spot? YOU make the suggestions, and YOU choose the winners! Featuring Bonnie Davies, Ofa Fotu, Stig Wemyss, Shane Adamczak and me.

NOV 26 – Fremantle Arts Centre ’50 Years of Art’ Open Day

Help Fremantle Arts Centre celebrate their 50th Birthday!

In 1973 The Fremantle Arts Centre was established, finalising the transformation of the once decrepit building into an artistic haven for the local community.

We invite young and old to celebrate this milestone with a free, family event; our 50 Years of Art Open Day.

Featuring:

  • OPEN STUDIOS to view students and tutors at work,
  • Adults and children’s BOOK READINGS from Fremantle Press – including Renae Hayward, Cheryl Kickett-Tucker and me! These will be in the morning at times TBC.
  • An EXHIBITION TOUR for Pliable Planes: Expanded Textiles & Fibre Practices and A Special Treat exhibitions
  • Outdoor ART ACTIVITIES for kids
  • BUSTER the Freo Fun Bus, plus face painting and glitter tattoos.
  • Sunday Music kicking off in the front garden from 2pm with producer and multi-instrumentalist Hector Morlet sharing his groovy, retro-infused beats alongside alt-pop artist Ella Therese.

Coffee, food vendors and a bar from midday – or pack a picnic and enjoy the leafy surrounds.
