Fremantle Press was the publisher of my very first book, and we’ve worked on many more since. They’re a WA institution, having kickstarted the careers of many local authors and illustrators. And this year they’re turning 50!
Here’s some ways you can help celebrate.
OPEN DAY, APRIL 24th
Freo Press have got fresh new digs at the old SEC substation in Parry St – check it out at their Open Day! It’s on April 24th from 9:30am-2pm, and includes panel sessions about publishing, as well as tours of the new building.

COOL MERCH!

Wear your support in style! Show your love for Fremantle Press with an exclusive building fund supporter pin or limited-edition tote bag with original artwork by author-illustrator Kelly Canby.
Purchase a 50th anniversary tote bag from the Fremantle Press website before 5.00 pm AWST on Sunday 29 March and it might arrive stuffed full of books! There is a bag of children’s books and a bag of adult books up for grabs. Winners will be drawn at random.
GARAGE SALE, MARCH 21st
There’s lots of bits of furniture left over at the old Freo press HQ on Quarry Street – head down there tomorrow for the Garage Sale and grab a bargain! There are chairs, desks, tables and bookshelves up for grabs.

SOCIAL MEDIA FRAMES AND STICKERS

Freo Press invite you to be a part of their 50th anniversary celebrations on social media. Download their templates and share your favourite Fremantle Press book or memory or jazz up your Stories with special-made stickers and gifs!
DONATE TO THE BUILDING FUND
Any donation you make between now and 24 May will be doubled, thanks to Creative Australia’s Plus1 program.
Proudly not for profit, Fremantle Press is an independent publishing house looking to secure part-ownership of the new building by its 50th anniversary in April 2026.
Their vision for the next 50 years is to expand their impact by opening up Fremantle Press to its community and providing a creative hub for writers and booklovers. The new storytelling powerhouse will be a place where we all share the value of reading, ensure that all Australians get to see themselves represented in books, and keep Western Australian culture alive by publishing important local stories. Our power is in the stories we share.
