I’m running a full-day picture book illustration workshop through UWA Extension.

There are four places left, so if it sounds like your kind of thing, book in and come along. Details below.

Overview

Sat Nov 15th
9:30am – 4:30pm
UWA Claremont (Western Australia)

I’ll guide you through the entire illustration process: from character designs and initial sketches, through to rough storyboards and a finished piece of artwork.

The workshop will look at the theory of picture book illustration and show how specific elements in illustrations (character, colour, line, media, lighting, point of view, composition and font) create a visual language that complements the text.

There will also be time set aside to discuss the practicalities of publishing: how to get your work in front of a publisher; how writers, illustrators and editors work together; and the pros and cons of self-publishing, e-books and traditional publishing.

Bookings

You can book in at the UWA Extension website.

Author: James Foley

James Foley makes children’s books for children who read books. If you’re a child and you’re eating his books, you’re doing it wrong. His books include the multi-award winning Stellarphant, Brobot, Chickensaurus, Bigfoot vs Yeti, Happy Barry Capybara and Oh No! James lives in Perth with his wife Renae Hayward (also an author), 2 kids (wannabe authors), and a labrador (not an author). He is a massive Marvel movie nerd and comes from a long line of queuing enthusiasts. Follow him on socials ( @jamesfoleybooks ) or at www.jamesfoley.com.au .
