I love making book trailers. It makes the armchair-movie-director in me feel very satisfied!
It’s a great challenge to make a movie that will give readers a sense of what the book is about; it’s also very exciting to find just the right music and sound effects that will bring the story to life.
It’s finally here! My new book Brobot is now available in bookshops.
Brobot is about a young inventor called Sally Tinker. She gets sick of her baby brother Joe, so she builds a new one, called Brobot.
Here’s some more info on the characters …
And here, for your viewing pleasure, is the Brobot book trailer! I had heaps of fun playing with a program called Adobe Character Animator to bring Sally to life.
It’s here! Finally I can show you the book trailer for ‘My Dead Bunny‘.
It’s two minutes-worth of animated zombie bunny badness.
I had a lot of fun putting this one together; I tried to mimic the old-school monster movie trailer format (i.e. melodramatic title cards and hammy voice-over. See the original Frankenstein trailer for a prime example).
I’d love to hear what you think! Leave a message in the comments.
working on a picture book for older readers that’s coming out in 2015;
visiting lots of schools and libraries to present talks and workshops;
and doing an Artist Residence at Mount Hawthorn Primary School with fellow author/illustrator Briony Stewart.
This year has been busy! But on to the purpose of this post.
Today is a landmark for a few reasons.
Firstly, it marks the end of my first year as a full-time author/illustrator.
It’s been an amazing year and I want to thank all the schools, libraries, freelance clients, teachers, students, parents and colleagues who have supported my work and helped make all this possible. I’m very lucky to be doing what I do.
Here’s your first proper look at The Last Viking Returns!
The book will be out on September 1.
Josh is as brave as a Viking warrior. And not much can scare a Viking. But when the two littlest Vikings go beserk, Josh, Grandpa and Viking World are in for a rocky ride. Here’s a sneak peek at the sequel to The Last Viking.
I was busting to animate a scene from the book. When I rough out the illustrations, I see it as a movie in my head. And now, part of it is a real little movie!
I’d love to go through and do the whole book. It would take about a month though- it took 14 hours to do a minute’s worth of footage.
