Check out this 15min video I made, commissioned by the good people at Awesome Arts Festival! It’s full of tips and tricks for teaching Comics in the Classroom.
No drawing skill is required, because comics aren’t about being the best at drawing; they’re about effectively communicating ideas, and you can do that with stick figures if need be!
I know we’ve all just finished a busy busyBUSY term 3, but …
… now it’s time for some fun school holiday workshops!
I’ve got a great new collaborative storytelling event at the Awesome Festival called Spontaneous Stories … and a comics workshop at Fremantle Library.
I’ve got some other events around town too but they’ve already booked out, so these are the only ones that still have tickets (at the time of making this post). Best get in quick!
To get email notifications of future events, you can either: – head to my blog and subscribe to new posts via the little box on the right. – sign up for my newsletter, The James Foley-o, and get all my news and events in a quarterly email.

James
It’s a super-busy month ahead, featuring a 10th birthday celebration for my first book on July 10!
The Last Viking is 10 years old (already!), so we’re having a Viking Crafternoon to celebrate.
One of the best things about making a book is getting to travel for writers’ festivals- it’s a brilliant perk. You get to visit places you’ve never been before, chat with other authors and illustrators, and meet your readers.
Speaking of which, Norman and I will be visiting Geraldton later week for the Big Sky Festival!
The festival is organised by the hard-working staff at Geraldton Regional Library, and runs from Friday Sept 9 – Sunday Sept 11.
Norm and I are running a few sessions together over the weekend:
Friday, 9.30 – 10.30am, Geraldton Library (youth session, talking about The Last Viking)
Friday, 1.30 – 2.30pm, Our Lady of Mt Carmel in Mullewa (youth session , talking about The Last Viking)
Saturday, 10.15 – 11.15am, Geraldton Universities Centre (talking about the collaborative process behind picture books)
Then on Sunday Norm and I will run two separate sessions at the same time.
Norm‘s session is called “Appealing to a Young Audience“…
and I’m running a workshop called “Comic Books: making words and pictures work“.
They’re both from 11am – 12noon at Geraldton Universities Centre.
